Basura Run

Photo grabbed from Paolo Rigotti

The first #BasuraRun in Bohol happened this morning thanks to the initiative of Bohol paddlers, runners, and cyclists. It’s pretty simple, you run while picking up trash along the way. Bohol Bloggers Collective and Sovereign Grace church also joined in the community service, which will be a regular event in Tagbilaran City and will be held every first Saturday of the month.

This morning’s group collected about 17 sacks of trash. Although this activity will not completely eradicate any city or province (maybe it will?) of its waste problem especially plastic waste, it is a good venue to raise awareness of our responsibility to throw our trash where they should be – not on the side of the road or at parks or behind our churches and most especially not in the ocean! – and to reduce single-use plastic.

This activity is open to everyone. Watch out for the next #BasuraRun or organize one yourself in your town or wherever you are. It’s time we take responsibility of our trashy actions (get it? 😜) and save mother earth before it’s too late.
