First Instagram Takeover

Hello again, world! It's been quite a while and I would only apologize to the blog for kind of neglecting it because I'm not sure if we have readers here yet. Heh. Obligatory apology done. Let's move on to good things.

We have done our very first Instagram takeover at @wheninbohol with Jumjum Ouano (@jumjum03) who has been really great not just for agreeing to try this experiment with us but for sharing his photos, some feelings, and his favorite things about Bohol. We did a quick interview with him below and hopefully, we'll be collaborating with him again in the future. We also compiled all the photos he shared through @wheninbohol.

Is this the first time you’ve done an Instagram takeover?

Yes, first time but I’ve been handling different accounts already before pa.

How was the experience?

It was fascinating. I like to tell stories, I like to narrate and I like to share pictures especially the challenging part is I need to showcase Bohol as Bohol and not about my travels or trips.

Would you do it again?

Sure, I would love to do it again and again!

Where would you take a non-local guest on a Friday night in Bohol?

I usually like to show them around Tagbilaran City by walking, have dinner at Gerarda's or Accasia de Bubu and then drinks at Martin's bar.

I am more of an art and heritage person so I like showing them the few past historical sites in Tagbilaran and narrate how the city have slowly progress from then.

Your current favorite coffee shop in Bohol (because we all need coffee :P) ?

Current coffee shop? If Estrella would pass as coffee shop, it’s Estrella but if not , Tamper or Mosia are options.

One of our goals for this blog is for it to be a venue for locals to share their favorite things about Bohol and in that way, show the world that Bohol isn't just the chocolate hills and Panglao but so much more. Hence, this takeover. 

Hey, guys! We've invited @jumjum03 to take over our IG account for a couple of weeks because what better way to learn about local life than through a local's eye, right? Just a quick background, Jumjum (or Lester if you wanna be formal hehe) has been all over the Philippines (Siquijor, Antique, Dumaguete, Davao, the list goes on) & even Paris (!!) but keeps coming back to his true home, Bohol. He's been helping fight human trafficking for 3 years & is the Vice Chair for Akbayan Youth in Visayas area. His favorite part about Bohol is Tagbilaran City and its people and he enjoys wandering and getting lost on his free time. Last 2013 Bohol was affected by a 7.2 M earthquake. One of the affected towns were #Dauis and the century old #dauischurch, luckily the ceiling and its old paintings were spared. #WhenInBohol try visiting the church which is still under renovation but can accommodate walk in tourist when opened. Interesting...

FYI: Ever wonder why the paper label in #Jagna's #Calamay is Red and not any other color? It is because during the time of the Spanish ruling in the country friars that introduce the calamay production in Jagna has this red belt around them. As an imitation, the producers use red for its paper labels. #Anda is not only known for its #WhiteSand beaches or the Red Hematite remains found in #LamanokCave but also for the adventures in jumping into cave pools. Maam Nene as we call her. Hermogenia "Nene" Lungay has honed several #Boholana #Baji Artist with her "Udlot" painting class for girls who want to improved their painting skills. Maam Nene is a Graduate of University of the Philippines in the Fine Arts program and has been in line with national artist like Napoleon Abueva (althought she is not an awardee of the National artist title) One of the masters of water color and oil paint with her paintings depicting Boholano culture and women. As a mother and a housewife she had given birth to so many modern Boholano/a artist thru her talents and inspiration. how do we skinned our peanuts? this process is called pag "tahop" usually term used in separating the un skinned rice or the husk from the properly grind ones. Some interesting facts for you...

revisiting familiar and known places is still more exciting every time you reminisce your past experience. The #Bilar #manmadeforest started as a reforestation project of the Local Government years ago. But now, it had turn out to be one of the most picture-worthy spot in the Province. FYI: The man made forest is also a dead forest. There is no living eco-system in the area. A visit to Bohol would not be complete without taking a glimpse at the chocolate hills.

revisiting familiar and known places is still more exciting every time you reminisce your past. The #Carmen #ChocolateHills which makes its name synonymous to Bohol is one of the jewel tourist destination in the Province. This hills are famous for its brownish like chocolate colors during summer can trace its formation to the corals and mineral limestones that composed of Bohol's land area.
